Institutional Memory

The Blue and White prides itself on preserving sources of institutional memory at Columbia and throughout the Morningside environs. Every four years, a new generation of students arrives on campus, so it is important to pass down knowledge of how to navigate the university.

To this end, we strive to include a number of historical items in each issue of the magazine. Additionally, we co-sponsor an event each spring to update WikiCU, Columbia’s online encyclopedia. To assist in these efforts, we encourage you to send us tips regarding the following:

  • Historical story ideas
  • Columbia traditions
  • Store arrivals and departures in Morningside Heights
  • Retirements among faculty and administration
  • Increases in tuition, fees, housing, and meal plans
  • Major renovations in Morningside Heights and Manhattanville
